May 13th is National Frog Jumping Day, and while most people may not be familiar with the holiday it is still a much loved celebration hosted all over the country.
Here is some history regarding Frog Jumping Day; it is based on Mark Twain’s first published short story called “The Celebrated Jumping Frog of Calaveras County,” which follows a man named Jim Smiley who bets that his prized frog can jump higher than any other frog in town. Inspired by this story, the real Calaveras County in California began hosting the County Fair and Frog Jumping Jubilee in 1893, and over the years this event has spread to many small towns across the United States.
While Frog Jumping Day may not be the most famous holiday of the year, we still want you ready to celebrate! Hop over to our catalog and choose from our selection of frog-themed ornaments and decorations before they all fly away.
